Basic Info
4140 steel is a general alloy steel composed mainly of iron, carbon, chromium, and manganese, and usually also contains small amounts of silicon, phosphorus, and sulfur. Its chemical composition includes approximately 0.38% to 0.43% carbon, 0.75% to 1.00% chromium, 0.15% to 0.30% silicon, 0.80% to 1.10% manganese, and small amounts of sulfur and phosphorus. This alloy steel obtains its excellent mechanical properties through heat treatment.
4140 steel has good strength, toughness, and wear resistance, making it suitable for manufacturing high-demand mechanical parts and tools, such as bearings, shafts, gears, pins, bolts, etc. It is also commonly used to make materials in shapes such as steel pipes, steel plates, and steel rods.
