Corrosion Resistance

Excellent Resistance to Strong Acids

  • HASTELLOY® B-3® exhibits outstanding resistance to hydrochloric acid (HCl) and hydrobromic acid (HBr), making it ideal for use in environments where these acids are present.

Improved Stability in Reducing Environments

  • The alloy demonstrates superior stability when exposed to reducing acids, which are often aggressive and prone to cause corrosion in many other materials.

Stress Corrosion Cracking Resistance

  • HASTELLOY® B-3® is highly resistant to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in chloride-bearing solutions, making it suitable for use in high-chloride environments such as chemical processing plants.

Performance in Fluoride-Bearing Media

  • The alloy performs well in environments that contain fluoride ions, which are known to attack many metals, including zirconium alloys.

General Corrosion Resistance

  • It offers excellent protection against general corrosion, even in environments that involve high concentrations of pure reducing acids.

Versatile Applications

  • Due to its outstanding corrosion resistance, HASTELLOY® B-3® is widely used in the chemical process industry (CPI), particularly in the construction of reaction vessels and equipment exposed to aggressive acids.
